On May 3, 2023, experts of the International Committee of the Red Cross conducted trainings for police officers from the Cherkasy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Ternopil, Volyn, Donetsk, Khmelnytskyi, Mykolaiv and Zakarpattia regions on the basis of the Center for International Humanitarian Law of the DonSUIA. Representatives of 9 regions of Ukraine are currently undergoing training at the Mariupol Primary Professional Training Center “Police Academy” of the DonSUIA.
The training program included the most relevant issues of today, namely: prospects for the use of force in the law enforcement paradigm, restoration of family ties and work with relatives of missing persons, protection of the civil population in the context of an international armed conflict.
The international team was headed by the regional delegate for work with legal bodies and security forces Halit Bulanikli. He noted: “It is very important that those who will study here receive key messages from international law and international human rights law. Upon returning to your region, we want each of you to remember what our emblems mean and what the essence of our staff is.”
The first vice-rector of the DonSUIA Yehor Nazymko assured those present that every day classes held in the center would be aimed at ensuring the policemen and lawyers to have an opportunity to contribute to the cessation of the armed conflict on the territory of Ukraine.
Red Cross representatives have been holding lectures with law enforcement officers since 2016. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, this has become almost impossible, but the opening of the center has restored the direction of work.
The Center for International Humanitarian Law operates at the University due to the project and financial support of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
