The Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs participated in the forum “A veteran in the Labor Market: Challenges and Solutions.” The event took place at the Center for Administrative Services of the city of Kropyvnytskyi and brought together representatives of the veteran community, government agencies, employers, employment centers and the media to discuss current issues of employment for veterans and military personnel after demobilization.
The DonSUIA was represented by deputy head of the Personnel Department Mykola Boichuk and senior inspector of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Work and Monitoring Hlib Zhyhadlo.
In his speech, Mykola Boichuk told about employment opportunities for veterans, combatants, and people with disabilities as a result of the war in administrative, scientific, pedagogical, and other positions at the University: “Veterans need special support in restoring their own competencies and mastering the new ones, as well as recognizing the value of their combat experience as relevant for work in civil life. The Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs is open and waiting for every veteran to join its team. We don’t just talk about support – we act.”
The forum participants discussed employment and adaptation of veterans, including barriers and prejudices, psycho-emotional challenges and employers’ experience. They considered opportunities and challenges for employment centers in cooperation with the veteran community and the role of the state and local authorities in supporting them. They also discussed public initiatives and listened to live stories and the needs of defenders at an “open microphone”.
At the end of the event, those present had an opportunity to talk to specialists from the DonSUIA and receive information booklets with a QR code that allowed them to be familiarized with the details of the University’s veteran policy and current vacancies.
