Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs has strong partnerships with a wide range of international organizations and higher education institutions around the world. In particular, the University actively cooperates with the European Union Advisory Mission to Ukraine, the OSCE Project Coordinator, UNDP in Ukraine and other UN agencies, the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ukraine, the Fulbright Program in Ukraine, Embassy of the USA in Ukraine, the Hans Seidel Foundation, GIZ, UK Department for International Development, Danish Refugee Council, foreign institutions of higher education in Greece, Germany, Poland, USA, Czech Republic, etc.
INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCES
Over the past five years, more than 10 international scientific conferences have been held at Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs. Among them the landmark conferences were:
- International scientific-practical conference “Criminological security of settlements”. Abstracts from about 100 speakers from different regions of Ukraine, as well as the Republics of Belarus, Moldova, Armenia and Tajikistan were sent to the conference. The result of the conference was the creation of a Public Safety Research Laboratory at the University (now Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs).
- International scientific-practical conference “Designing a safe community environment” is timed to the Day of the National Police of Ukraine. The conference was co-organized by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Donetsk Oblast and the Donetsk Oblast Research Center of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine. The European Union Advisory Mission in Ukraine provided full support to the conference. As a result of the conference, participants developed a number of proposals and recommendations for improving legislation and law enforcement practices on community safety;
- International scientific-practical online seminar “Activities of state bodies in martial law”. Well-known scientists from Ukraine and abroad took part in the work, more than 200 people in total. Following the results of the International scientific-practical online seminar “Activities of state bodies in martial law” a resolution was formed, which included the main ideas and proposals presented by the participants in theses, reports and during the general discussion.
- An outstanding event in the history of the international partnership of the University was the international scientific-practical conference “DONETSK LEGAL INSTITUTE OF THE MINISTRY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS OF UKRAINE: EDUCATIONAL TRADITIONS TESTED IN TIME”, dedicated to the sixtieth anniversary of University.
International partners who performed with speaches : Head of the European Union Advisory Mission to Ukraine, Chief Adviser to the European Union Advisory Mission to Ukraine on Prosecution, Director of the European Public Law Organization (Greece), lecturer at the Specialized Police Training Institute in Katowice (Poland), USAID Senior Labor Development Manager, Economic Support to Eastern Ukraine, Vice-Rector of Mykola Romeris University (Lithuania), Professor of Mykola Romeris University (Lithuania).
In total, the organizing committee of the scientific event received more than 160 applications from representatives of the highest state bodies of Ukraine: the Constitutional Court, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Police, the Ministry of Education and Science; leading institutions of higher education and research institutions; local authorities; foreign partners; representatives of practical subdivisions of law enforcement agencies, public organizations. Among the participants of the conference were participated 36 doctors of sciences, 23 professors, 69 PhDs, 10 representatives of foreign institutions and international organizations.
INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS
Starting in 2020, the university begins active international project activities. During this time, the university has initiated and acted as a reliable partner in the implementation of a wide range of international projects, among which the following should be noted:
Reconstruction of University buildings project
The project was implemented in cooperation with the Kryvyi Rih City Council and the German Charitable Foundation (Federal Campaign) “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit” (GIZ) within the framework of the program “Development of social infrastructure due to the increase in the number of internally displaced persons”.
Purpose: Overhaul of the educational complex of the University in Kryvyi Rih to ensure proper conditions for educational activities.
Modern dormitory
The project was supported by the UK Government’s Department for International Development and the Danish Refugee Councilunder under he Rapid Protection and Immediate Response Program in Eastern Ukraine .
Purpose: to create comfortable living conditions for cadets and students of the university by equipping the student dormitory in Kryvyi Rih with modern furniture and equipment
Psychological unloading room
The project was supported by the British Council in Ukraine Active Citizens Program and the Center for Innovation and Sustainable International Development .
Objective: to maintain psychological health and restore the emotional resource of cadets and students of the University by equipping a special room for psychological relief for psychotherapy sessions.
Model polling station
The project was implemented with the support of the EUAM and the NGO “OPORA”
Objective: to ensure a fair, transparent election process, the exercise of voting rights by citizens of Ukraine by increasing the competence of police officers in the field of forecasting possible election violations and responding effectively to them.
Community policing expert center
The project was implemented with the support of the EUAM and the Mariupol City Council
Objective: to create a leading educational and analytical center in the field of community policing, which provides expert support and offers innovative solutions to ensure public safety by strengthening police interaction with the community.
Open police creative space project
The project was implemented in partnership with the Main Division of the National Police in Donetsk region, the Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine, Mariupol City Council, NGO “Council of Women of Donetsk”, NGO “Mariupol Development Fund”, EUAM.
Objective: to create an open platform to bring together the police, community, youth, academics and educators, local authorities and other stakeholders to share experiences, generate ideas and develop innovative security solutions.
«University studio: video activities recording»
The project is funded by a small grant competition announced by the Fulbright Program in Ukraine under the Strengthening Relocated Ukrainian Universities for Sustainable Development project, funded by the Press, Education and Culture Department of the US Embassy in Ukraine.
Objective: creation of a studio at the University for professional recording of video materials to be used in educational activities, digitalization of the educational process, increasing the level of access of cadets and students to educational services and developing professional opportunities of faculty.
Effective cooperation in action
During the existence of the University there are many examples of effective cooperation with international partners in the field of joint research, organization of socially useful events, joint meetings to discuss current social issues and find effective solutions, education of conscious youth and etc. We invite you to read some examples.
Victory in the #QuarantineCorruption contest
The WIKNAK team of Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs won a creative competition organized by the EU Advisory Mission to Ukraine together with the Hans Seidel Foundation “#QuarantineCorruption” in the Video category.
Objective: to draw attention to the problem of corruption and take measures to combat corruption as a negative social phenomenon.
Participation in the international program academic mobility
Representatives of the University took part in the international project “Education for Open Space for Students and Communities” (EDUSPACE) (University of Genoa, Italy) in the framework of the academic mobility program implemented by the US Embassy.
Purposes:
1. Improving the quality of higher education in the change management system;
2. Development of communicative capacity of relocated Ukrainian universities;
3. Development of partnerships between universities to make progress;
4. Mastering the tools of monitoring the implementation of the strategy of development of higher education institutions in conditions of uncertainty.
Competition of student mini projects “5 first steps”
The event was implemented in partnership with the EUAM and the Main Division of the National Police in Donetsk region
Objective: to reveal in cadets the potential for strategic thinking, project management and change management in the law enforcement system, which is constantly evolving towards European standards.
Women`s leadership forum “Be a woman. Be a leader. Be yourself”
The event was implemented in partnership the Main Division of the National Police in Donetsk region, Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine.
Goals of the event:
Breaking gender stereotypes in the law enforcement system and society in general;
Motivation of students for personal and professional development;
Forming a community of women’s leadership and development of mentoring;
Development of student activism against gender discrimination and gender-based violence.
Presentation of scientific and practical recommendations on documentation of domestic violence as an administrative offense
The event was implemented in partnership the Main Division of the National Police in Donetsk region, Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine, Mariupol City Council.
The purpose of the event was to present an analysis of the domestic violence cases in administrative proceedings; identification of problematic issues of documenting this administrative offense; providing practical recommendations to address existing gaps. The event was held as part of the global initiative “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”.
“Stop drugs. Live to the fullest”
Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs held a mass event and a photo exhibition on drug harm at the initiative of the Kramatorsk District Police Station. Event was supported by the Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine with the financial support of the governments of Denmark, Switzerland and Sweden.
The main purpose of the event: combating drug addiction and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
“Women`s workshop of ideas on the organization of gender-sensetive spaces for workers of the ministry of the interior system”
35 law enforcement officials discussed the challenges facing women in the performance of their duties, discussed the causes of emotional and professional burnout, and shared experiences.
The purpose of the event: prevention of emotional and professional burnout, intensification of processes of building trust and mutual support in teams, as well as networking of women to share experiences and improve professional skills, renew internal resources.
The event was supported by the Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine.
EUAM support in organizing a working visit of the committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on law enforcment activities
During the visit to Mariupol city , the Verkhovna Rada Committee held a working meeting at the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs with the leadership of the National Police, Regional State Administration, Mariupol City Council, representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office, Security Service of Ukraine, State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, National Guard of Ukraine, Rector University.
The meeting discussed problematic issues in the work and interaction of law enforcement agencies involved in ensuring national security, vital interests of society in the area of hostilities, and relevant legislative proposals.
HUMANITARIAN AID
With the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, a large number of international organizations, colleagues and volonteers from around the world have rallied around the help and support of the University. Currently, University is rebuilding its facilities, material and technical base, organizing housing and construction conditions for students evacuees evacuated from Mariupol. Thanks to coordinated actions, the university management managed to evacuate 365 cadets and 221 faculty and others University team members from the city of Mariupol.
In this way, the University is supported by the Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine, Kropyvnytskyi Red Cross , the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ukraine, UNHCR, colleagues and volonteers from Denmark and Luxembourg and others.
