On the occasion of the Day of Ukrainian Volunteer, the DonSUIA held a meeting with Territorial Defense military men serving in Severodonetsk, Toshkivka, and Voronivka for the students of DonSUIA and the youth of Kropyvnytskyi.
The commander of the unit with the call sign “Sokil” together with his comrades stood up for the defense of the state from the first days of the war. They covered the withdrawal of their comrades through Siverskyi Donets and defended the positions entrusted to them to the last.
There are almost no professional soldiers in the unit. A security guard, a car mechanic, an organizer of entertainment programs in the past, in today’s conditions, have become snipers, machine gunners, aerial drone operators and explosives technicians.
The military men showed weapons, means for fighting and defense, and told about the peculiarities of their use. The pride of the defenders is a device for the remote destruction of the enemy, which they developed independently.
“Due to this device, we conduct a remote battle. The operator, analyzing camera data during the assault and mortar fire from the enemy, can perform targeted fire. This mechanism is very difficult to destroy, because all its components are easy to replace. Two hours after the damage, it is back in service. We put it on wheels and are going to strengthen its base, which will allow us to use it to transport the wounded from the battlefield in the future,” said Sokil.
Special attention was paid to mine and explosive awareness. A military man with the call sign “Fox” told the participants of the meeting about the danger and insidiousness of mines, grenades, and streamers. He emphasized that the main purpose of this weapon is to inflict maiming on a person, which is very often fatal.
“Mines can be everywhere – in forests, houses, gardens. There are a lot of them in the places of hostilities, and in the Donetsk region they are everywhere. Mindful of their danger, one should not throw stones or sticks at them, this can cause maiming and death,” emphasized Fox
The event was held with the assistance of the Department of Youth and Sports of the Kropyvnytskyi City Council. The deputy head of the unit, Kateryna Cherkasska, on behalf of the executive committee of the Kropyvnytskyi City Council, presented a letter of thanks to Kyryl Lagutin, a cadet of the faculty of training specialists for the pre-trial investigation units of the DonSUIAS, for his active participation in the volunteer movement and public position.
