A training session for veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war “Modern relaxation methods” was held at the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs. The event took place in the warm atmosphere of a psychological office, where experienced specialists – head of the psychological support department of the DonSUIA Tetiana Ivanchenko and psychologist Oleksandra Kharchenko – shared efficient techniques for reducing stress and maintaining mental health.
“Returning to peaceful life, veterans face difficult challenges: adaptation, emotional burnout, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), sleep disorders, anxiety, difficulties in decision-making and interpersonal interactions. That is why it is psychological relief that becomes a critically important component of their return to everyday life,” noted Tetiana Ivanchenko.
The training was attended by veterans, Honorary President of the Strongman Federation of Ukraine Vasyl Virastiuk, and head of the regional branch of the Federation Oleksandr Lashyn. They were introduced to modern relaxation techniques that are actively used in working with military personnel around the world.
Among them: breathing exercises; progressive muscle relaxation; visualization; meditation; yoga, as well as sensory practices – music, aromatherapy, light therapy.
The main technique of the class was neuromuscular relaxation according to the Jacobson method, which is based on the sequential tension and relaxation of separate muscle groups. This technique helps reduce anxiety, relieve physical tension, and restore emotional balance.
Another interesting part of the meeting was working with metaphorical associative cards. Through the images depicted on the cards, veterans were able to delve into their own inner experiences and find their own positive resources to move forward.
This event became another step in the rehabilitation and psychological support of those who defended our country. After all, caring for veterans is not only words of gratitude, but also definite actions that help them return to a full life.
