Ruslan Vradii, acting rector of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs, together with the University students, took a part in citywide events in Kropyvnytskyi on the occasion of the 107th anniversary of the Kruty Battle.
On January 29, 1918, an unequal battle took place near the Kruty railway station between Ukrainian defenders and bolshevik troops. Approximately 400 students, cadets, and Cossacks stood up to a much bigger Bolshevik army and were defeated. However, this battle became a symbol of heroism and self-sacrifice of young people in their struggle for the freedom of the state.
The leaders of the Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration, the Kirovohrad Regional Council, the Kropyvnytskyi City Council, law enforcement and military structures, representatives of higher education institutions, active citizens and young people laid flowers and tied patriotic ribbons to the memorial plaque to their countrymen who fought for Ukrainian statehood – brothers Volodymyr and Oleksandr Shulhin.
The Archbishop of Kropyvnytskyi and Holovanivsk of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Mark held a memorial service for the souls of the fallen heroes.
To mark the event, the DonSUIA cadets unfurled blue and yellow flags and honored the fighters for Ukraine’s independence with a minute of silence.
