Representatives of the DonSUIA project group presented the University’s potential and the projects that are already being implemented for the benefit of the community and students. The first coordination meeting of the national structural project Erasmus+ UNICOM “Universities-communities: strengthening cooperation” – Project EU Erasmus+ “Universities-Communities: strengthening cooperation” (UNICOM) (2023-2026) – was held on April 12-15 at the University of Genoa (the University of Genoa; Genoa, Italy).
The first vice-rector of DonSUIA Yehor Nazymko talked about the development and relocation of the University which occurred twice. He singled out the main indicators of the efficiency of educational and scientific activities and noted the fruitfulness of work of the scientific-pedagogical and administrative staff of the University in ensuring the quality of education in the conditions of martial law. Yehor Nazymko spoke about opening of two doctoral specialized councils in legal sciences in five specialties, about increasing the number of scientific publications and obtaining patents. He also noted that 108 combatants work at the University, who by their own example prove the invincibility of the Ukrainian people and motivate students and cadets to actively participate in the development of their higher educational institution.
Senior inspector of the international cooperation department Yevhenia Dragomirova spoke about the formation of the third mission of the DonSUIA since 2014, which was, first of all, aimed at the staff members and cadets who were internally displaced persons and needed attention and support. In her report, the speaker provided information about current projects: creation of the Coordination Center of the Office of the Commissioner for Missing Persons (with the support of the Office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi), trainings in tactical medicine (with the support of Serhii Prytula Charitable Foundation), about long-term work of the legal clinic “Defender”, whose services are used by the community, especially in matters of displaced persons. Yevhenia Dragomirova emphasized personal contribution of Serhii Vitvitskyi, rector of the DonSUIA to cooperation with the community and local authorities in all areas of the University’s activities.
Joint work with the academic team, higher education seekers and the public led the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs to the third mission, and wartime increased its significance for all beneficiaries.
