To the International Day of Women in Science, the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs hosted a regional scientific discussion platform “A woman in science in conditions of war”.
The event was attended by the representatives of scientific communities of the Kirovohrad, Lviv, Odesa, Kyiv, Ternopil, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
The University vice-rector Olena Volobuieva welcomed the guests on behalf of the DonSUIA rector Serhii Vitvitskyi. The meeting was moderated by Tetiana Kononenko, doctor of philosophical sciences, the DonSUIA professor.
The importance of the holiday focusing on equality, support and development of women’s potential in the field of science was emphasized by Inna Vlasova, deputy head of the Main Office, head of the investigative department of the Main Office of the National Police in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration Elsa Leshchenko noted that a Ukrainian woman – scientist is the symbol of a combination of traditional values and a desire for knowledge. She is a unique phenomenon that combines the power of scientific knowledge and the depth of spiritual and cultural heritage of our people.
Halyna Luhova, a representative of the Commissioner of Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the Kirovohrad region, noted a positive trend of increasing the number of women engaged in scientific activities and thanked everyone who contributes to this process.
The participants of the meeting discussed the following issues: “Women in science: a modern trend or a real necessity”, “Gender stereotypes and obstacles on the path of women in science”, “A woman scientist in conditions of war: today’s challenges”. They discussed key issues related to the role of women in science, their achievements, challenges in wartime and the ways to support gender equality in science.
The discussions confirmed relevance of the given topic and contributed to finding new ways to overcome the existing obstacles and involve more women in the field science.
