As a part of the ERASMUS+ KA2 CBHE project “Universities Communities: strengthening cooperation” UNICOM No. 101083077 implementation, UNICOM workshop “Sustainable universities – sustainable communities” was held for the representatives of the universities – members of the consortium.
Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs was presented by: the first vice-rector Yehor Nazymko and the head of the international cooperation unit Viktoriia Moskalenko.
With a welcoming speech addressed: Roman Hladyshevskyi, vice-rector for scientific work of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv; UNICOM project coordinator Diana Spulber (University of Genoa); Yehor Nazymko, the first vice-rector of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs; vice-rector for science, innovation and international cooperation of Melitopol Pedagogical University named after B. Khmelnytskyi Tetiana Konovalenko.
The participants of the plenary sessions considered the following issues:
– sustainability as a stabilizing factor for universities and communities in acute social challenges: theory and practice;
– non-governmental sector and ensuring sustainability in cooperation between universities and communities;
– the practice of cooperation between universities and communities during the war for ensuring sustainability.
They discussed: “The role and development of the university for strengthening the sustainability of communities” (Marharyta Lyshenko, Sumy National Agrarian University); “Multiculturalism as a factor of sustainability and stability of the community during the war” (Olena Arabadzhy, Bogdan Khmelnitsky Melitopol State Pedagogical University); “The best European experience of social innovations in education: prospects for Ukraine” (Marya Nesterova, Dragomanov Ukrainian State University); “Resilience of communities during the war” (Marianna Hladysh, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv); “Determining the sources of sustainability of Ukrainian medical universities: a vitally important skill in difficult times” (Viktoriia Rodnikova, National Pirogov Memorial University).
Mykhailo Vikhliaev, director of the Public Organization “Center for Ukrainian-European Scientific Cooperation” spoke about the creation of the Law Faculties of Ukraine Assosiation. Its implementation – community support, combating crime, corruption, advisory services. Separately, he focused on the public organization and the DonSUIA cooperation.
The first vice-rector of the DonSUIA, Yehor Nazymko, and the head of the international cooperation unit, Viktoriia Moskalenko, informed about “Community-oriented security projects and the implementation of the third mission of the DonSUIA”.
They paid attention to the scientific activities of the university, in particular, the creation of a research laboratory of community public security, which is the only one in Ukraine. Currently, DonSUIA carries out 7 community-oriented research projects.
Yehor Nazymko and Viktoriia Moskalenko also presented the educational and international activities of the university, talked about the implementation of European experience and the development of the third mission at the request of the community – driving schools for people with disabilities, educational projects, and the arrangement of specialized educational facilities.
The workshop ended with a discussion of directions for the development of the third mission of the universities in Ukraine during the war. The participants exchanged views and suggestions on further actions and its strengthening.
