The DonSUIA held a number of events for Taras Shevchenko’s birthday. Among them were a theatrical performance, recitation of poems, colloquiums in the University libraries, educational hours dedicated to the great Kobzar, laying flowers at the poet’s monuments.
Shevchenko is not only a poet and an artist, but also a national hero, an advocate of freedom, national identity and a model of dignity and love for the native land.
In the University assembly hall 2nd-year cadets of the faculty of training specialists for criminal police units staged a performance based on Taras Shevchenko’s poem “Kateryna”. This is a story about tragic love of young Kateryna and her fiancé Onufrii, who goes to war for the freedom of Ukraine. The actors gave Taras Shevchenko’s poem a modern adaptation.
In addition, literary evenings and poetic digests were held at both locations of the University – in Kryvyi Rih and Kropyvnytskyi. Cadets and students read their favorite poems of Shevchenko and discussed his creative legacy. Within the University of Culture, Yurii Mytrofanenko – candidate of historical sciences, a local historian, a guide and a public figure – conducted a lecture for higher education seekers. He talked about the life and work of Taras Shevchenko.
Cadets of the faculty of training specialists for national police units joined a literary and musical event “The Path of Kobzar is the Path of his People”, which took place in the Central City Library. Pupils of artistic and educational institutions of Kryvyi Rih participated in it. They recited Shevchenko’s poems and played musical instruments. The event was also attended by the representatives of the city administration and the district councils of the city.
The great Taras Shevchenko left us a legacy that must be transferred to new generations. His word will be our eternal guide on the way to the glorious future that he prophesied for his people.
