Every year on the fourth Saturday of November, the Ukrainians commemorate the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 and the man-made famines of 1921-1923 and 1946-1947.
On November, 25 representatives of the regional and local administration, Ukrainian clergy, military personnel, public figures, and citizens gathered at the “Fortress Walls” Memorial Complex in Kropyvnytskyi. They were joined by cadets of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs. The participants of the event laid spikelet of wheat and placed icon-lamps at the memorial to the victims of the Holodomor.
On the eve of the tragic date, higher education seekers of the DonSUIA made a historical excursion into the past of the Ukrainian people. The University librarians Olena Korobka and Antonina Harkusha, told the University staffers and the students of the faculty of law, management and economic security about those terrible events. They presented a book exhibition “Genocide of Ukrainian nation. Ukraine remembers. The world recognizes” and offered those present to participate in the creation of the poster “Bitter harvest of 1932-1933. We will not forget.”
First-year students majoring in “Law enforcement” visited the exhibition of photographs presented by a historian Serhii Miliutin, which was held at the Kirovohrad regional local history museum.
Representatives of the department of operational investigation and information security presented the cadets a thematic event “Remember the victims of the Holodomor. Support those who are fighting for Ukraine.” Its participants noted that ninety years later, the Ukrainians are again suffering from Russian imperialism, which does not hide its intentions to destroy Ukraine and its identity.
The staffers of the regional universal scientific library named after D. Chyzhevskyi organized a screening of the film “Alive” for the cadets of the faculty training specialists for criminal police units. It highlights the tragedy of a large-scale famine and its social, political, and economic consequences for the population.
In Kryvyi Rih, cadets of the faculty of training specialists for the National Police units KRESI of the DonSUIA visited a thematic exhibition “Holodomor – with the eyes of Ukrainian artists.” The event took place in the City Exhibition Hall. Among the exhibits one can see works of students of Music School No. 5 and well-known Kryvyi Rih artists. The center of the exhibition was a painting by the artist Serhii Oksamytnyi. A patriotic educational event ” A candle cried in sorrow” was also held for the cadets.
The higher education seekers watched a documentary film “Millstones”, which highlights more than 30 stories of the Holodomor victims from 30 districts of the Kharkiv region. After it those present exchanged their opinions.
The participants of all events commemorated those who died with a moment of silence and lit candles in memory of the victims of the communist regime.
