In order to form professional and academic ethics of higher education seekers, the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs held a training on academic integrity.
Its purpose is to raise young people’s awareness of the basic principles of academic integrity and develop critical thinking and a responsible attitude to the educational process.
The cadets learned about its fundamental principles: responsibility, honesty, transparency, fairness and accuracy in working with scientific materials. They discussed the importance of adhering to ethical standards both in their studies and in their future professional activities, in particular in working with information and documents.
Particular attention was paid to plagiarism and the ways to avoid it. The young people gained practical skills in the correct formatting of citations and bibliographic references, which are an integral part of scientific work. The lecturers emphasized the importance of independent task completion and transparency in the process of preparing research papers.
During the practical part of the training, the participants were involved in interactive tasks: analyzing texts for plagiarism and drawing up a plan for academically virtuous work. These exercises helped to consolidate the knowledge gained and formed a clear understanding of how ethics and academic integrity are integrated into the daily learning process.
The moderators of the event were Associate Professors of the Department of Operational and Investigative Activities and Information Security of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs, Serhii Pekarskyi and Olha Haborets.
