A five-day training course for higher education seekers was held at the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs with the participation of instructors from the 12th Special Forces Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov”.
This practically oriented event became a logical continuation of the University work on the implementation of modern approaches to training future police officers. Instructors with combat experience focused on two key areas – tactical and pre-medical training.
The cadets learned about the rules of movement in a combat zone, basic stances, weapon grip, firing positions and movement under fire, as well as the use of shelter, cover, “dead zones”, etc.
Considerable attention was paid to the provision of first aid in combat conditions according to the standards of TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care) and its adapted version for law enforcement officers – TECC (Tactical Emergency Casualty Care). This system involves assessing the victim’s condition, stabilizing his vital functions, and ensuring his survival until evacuation.
Young police officers theoretically and practically mastered: block S (safety), elements of medical triage in case of a significant number of victims; methods of assistance in case of massive bleeding (working with tourniquets of different manufacturers and types, using improvised tourniquets, wound tamponade, some elements of desmurgy); ensuring airway patency (Heimlich maneuver, Safar’s triple maneuver); providing first aid in case of pneumothorax at an elementary level; evacuating victims in a combat zone, etc.
Under the guidance of qualified trainers, the cadets also practiced action algorithms that are key to preserving life in conditions close to real combat operations in simulated tactical situations.
Every day of training involved intensive physical and psychological training, as well as work on mistakes.
The DonSUIA administration expresses sincere gratitude to the instructors of the 12th Special Forces Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov” for their high professionalism, demanding nature, and valuable experience for higher education seekers.
