On March 25-28, as part of the ERASMUS + KA 2 CBHE 101083077 “UNIVERSITIES-COMMUNITIES: STRENGTHENING COOPERATION” (UNICOM)” project, the second series of workshops from the University of Latvia for the scientists of Ukrainian higher education institutions was held. The DonSUIA was presented by: head of the scientific work organization department, Hanna Buha, and head of the research laboratory on the problems of criminal offense prevention, Tetiana Ponomarova.
During the meetings, the participants discussed the topic “Sustainable economic growth and implementation of the third mission in higher education institutions”, and also took part in the 82nd International Scientific Conference “Sustainable Universities – Sustainable Society”. Educational and scientific events were prepared by the project manager Baiba Shavriņa (B. Šavriņa) on the basis of the Faculty of Business, Management and Economics of the University of Latvia (Riga, the Republic of Latvia).
The event was opened by the dean of this faculty, G. Berdzynsh (Berdziņš). He emphasized the importance of sharing experience regarding the implementation of the third mission in the HEI in conditions of sustainable economic growth.
During the visit, the participants visited the Educational Center of Management and Entrepreneurship of the University of Latvia, the Business Incubator of the higher education institution, the National Library of the Republic, as well as the branch of the University in Kuldiha. During the 82nd International Scientific Conference “Sustainable Universities – Sustainable Society”, the scientists of the Ukrainian University consortium shared their own experience of implementing the third mission in their higher education institutions, and also assessed the consequences of the Universities relocation. The report was also made by the representative of Fondazione Sicurezza e Liberta (Rome, the Italian Republic ) Alessandro Fihus .
As a result of their fruitful work, all participants of the series of workshops and the annual International Conference gained knowledge about ensuring the relationship between higher education institutions and local authorities, as well as the specifics of implementing the third mission in cooperation with social partners. A number of recommendations provided by the Latvian partners can be adapted to the Ukrainian education system and used by higher education institutions of Ukraine.
