University scientists participated in the development and implementation of a training course on responding to threats related to sources of ionizing radiation. The scientific community of departmental institutions of higher education with specific learning conditions is working on the project under the coordination of the Department of Education, Science and Sports of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the city of Vienna (Austria).
In the conditions of martial law, ensuring public security and law and order requires the National Police to timely respond to criminal offenses that pose a threat to the life and health of citizens.
Moderators of the training course are the Office of Radiological Security of the National Administration for Nuclear Security of the Department of Energy of the USA and the State Inspection of Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine.
Representatives of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs ensured the development of the theoretical part of the course. Currently, in Vienna, together with the scientists from other higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, they are working on the creation and implementation of the practical component, namely, the facility dossier and the response plan to incidents with sources of ionizing radiation.
Determining the competence of the staff of different police units who are part of the response forces provides an opportunity to implement algorithms for effective police actions in different situations, in particular: in case of theft of sources of ionizing radiation, robbery attacks on such objects, in case of armed resistance to criminals who are trying to remove the source of ionizing radiation etc.
The result of the development of the theoretical and practical component of the training course on police response to incidents with sources of ionizing radiation provides for its introduction into the educational process of higher educational institutions with specific learning conditions that belong to the sphere of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
