Olha Lomaka, a student of the faculty of law, management and economic security of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs, took part in a ten-day study visit to Poland.
The visit took place as part of the Study Tours to Poland (STP) program – an educational initiative organized by the Polish-American Freedom Foundation in cooperation with the Leaders of Change Foundation and the Borussia Foundation. It is designed to familiarize students with different aspects of Polish life – from the implementation of systemic reforms and the process of rebuilding the country after the Second World War to the development of civil society and stimulation of social activity.
The participants of the program studied the experience of Poland in the formation of democratic institutions, learned about the reconstruction of the country after war destructions, about protection of women’s rights, integration of refugees and migrants into the society.
The young people got acquainted with the work and specifics of the city and student radio in Wroclaw in conditions of freedom of speech. They took part in workshops on climate change, mediation, conflict resolution, and also expanded their knowledge and skills in the field of sustainable development and effective communication.
The training was held in English, which made it possible to establish a dialogue and friendly relations between the students of Ukraine, Moldova and Poland. This aspect contributed to the exchange of experience and the development of a common understanding of global challenges, such as climate change and migration issues.
Among the events that left the most vivid impressions, Olha Lomaka mentioned meetings with representatives of the European Commission in Poland.
After completing the program, the DonSUIA student received a certificate confirming her participation in the study visit, the acquired knowledge and skills. Olga will use the acquired experience in her professional activities, particularly to support legal reforms and promote socially important initiatives in Ukraine.
