The Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs was visited by a coordinator of the international project “Sister Libraries” https://www.ala.org/irrt/irrtcommittees/irrtsisterlibrary/sisterlibrary, technical service librarian, assistant professor of Troy University www.troy.edu (the State of Alabama, USA) Olga Casey. The “Sister Libraries” project is initiated by the American Library Association (ALA https://www.ala.org/).
The DonSUIA joined the project in September 2022. The result of its implementation is systematic replenishment of the University library fund with specialized foreign literature from the scientific library of the Troy University. The received textbooks and manuals on criminology and forensics are used during English classes and seminars on professional subjects.
In April 2024, the library fund was replenished with a collection of books on profiling written by John Edward Douglas, a well-known American criminologist and one of the founders of the profiling method.
During the meeting with Olga Casey, first vice-rector of the DonSUIA, Yehor Nazymko, noted that the restoration of the library fund for a displaced higher education institution is quite a difficult task. The implementation of the “Sister Libraries” project and the replenishment of library book funds with popular scientific publications, which are in great demand among students and cadets, is a considerable contribution to the development of the DonSUIA. The University staff works to provide the higher educational institution with modern resources and services for studying and research.
Head of the educational and methodical department Olha Haponiuk presented the guest a list of relevant foreign scientific literature, which is necessary to ensure a high-quality educational process at the University.
In her speech, Olga Casey talked about the project ” Sister Libraries”. She also dwelled upon the structure of her University and the peculiarities of the educational process in it.
The students present at the meeting asked the speaker questions regarding the educational process at the Troy University, they were particularly interested in the problem of the use of artificial intelligence in the educational process at the US Universities.
The librarians of the University general library received a number of consultations from their foreign colleague, among them were topical issues of information literacy, as well as the problem of plagiarism.
During the visit, the guest familiarized herself with other international projects implemented by the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs.
The DonSUIA thanks project coordinator Olga Casey for her contribution to the development of the library fund!
