On November, 14-20, the second stage of the Road Safety Week is being held in Ukraine. Within it a number of events are planned, designed to draw public attention to the problems of injuries and deaths on Ukrainian roads.
The Week began with the meeting of the round table “Road traffic safety under martial law”. The participants discussed the issue of the number of road accidents in conditions of martial law, legislative changes in the field of road safety proposed by people’s deputies, the possibilities of preserving the road infrastructure during martial law and educational programs for educating young road users in conditions of war, which are being developed by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The round table was held in offline and online formats.
The organizers of the event were: the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine; IСF “Assistance to victims of road accidents”; Kyiv Interregional Branch” of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Research Institute of Transport Medicine” of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The first vice-rector of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs Yehor Nazymko, who was among the speakers, greeted the audience on behalf of the rector Serhii Vitvitskyi.
“Our University has been a reliable partner in organizing Road Safety Weeks since the First Global Road Safety Week was declared by the UN General Assembly held in April 2007. During this period, we have successfully held 23 scientific and practical events, including 20 conferences, 16 of them had international status and 3 scientific round tables,” admitted Yehor Nazymko in his speech.
In recent years, the scientists of DonSUAI have prepared 27 scientific, scientific-practical and scientific-methodical publications aimed at solving urgent issues of ensuring safety in transport both by policemen and other law enforcement officers
The University also held 6 contests of children’s drawings “My best friend is- safe traffic”, youth poetry contest “Rhymes on wheels”.
Conducting the events like Road Safety Week aimed at preventing road traffic injuries, even in conditions of martial law, remains relevant because only by joint efforts we will win the Victory in the war and save human lives on the roads!
