A five- day training «Сybersecurity in Communities: Innovative Approaches to Crime Prevention and Human Rights Protection,” has been completed at the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs which brought together police representatives from the Dnipropetrovsk and the Zaporizhzhia regions.

On behalf of the DonSUIA rector, police colonel Serhii Vitvitskyi, first vice-rector of the University, police colonel Olena Volobuieva addressed the audience. “Today, Ukraine is fighting not only on the battlefield, but also in the digital space. Cyberattacks, information manipulations, fake news are weapons that strike at people’s consciousness and undermine trust in the state. The task of our police is not only to react, but also to prevent, forming a safe digital environment. That is why such trainings are the foundation of a new model of police-community interaction, where prevention becomes no less important than investigation,” the first vice-rector noted.

The participants were also welcomed by Svitlana Ryzhkova, a public safety specialist at the United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine (UNDP)
The training resulted in the presentation of individual action plans, within which community police officers, representatives of juvenile prevention units, educational security officers and human rights inspectors presented specific initiatives to increase digital literacy of the population, strengthen the cyber resilience of regions and prevent cyber incidents in communities.

One of the participants of the training admitted: “This training taught us not only the technical aspects of cybersecurity, but also effective interaction with people. We understand that building the culture of digital security starts with trust, and now we are ready to disseminate this knowledge in our communities.”

The event was organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine in partnership with the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs within the framework of the project “EU4Recovery – Empowering Communities in Ukraine” with financial support from the European Union.
