As part of implementing the strategy for continuous professional development of law enforcement officers, Andrii Shulga, associate professor of the Department of State and Legal Disciplines of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law and Social Management of the DonSUIA, with the support of the Department of the Main Inspection and Human Rights of the National Police, represented by police major Mykola Sulzhuk, conducted a specialized training for employees of territorial units of the National Police of Ukraine on the topic “Preventing domestic violence in conditions of martial law.”
During the training, the participants focused on solving practical problems. In particular, they discussed the specifics of communication with victims who were in a state of acute stress, as well as the specifics of working with children – witnesses of violence.
The participants paid special attention to the application of urgent prohibitory orders, monitoring their implementation in conditions of martial law, and establishing effective interaction between the police, social services and public organizations within the framework of the Community policing concept.
Also, law enforcement officers analyzed difficult work situations in which it was necessary to combine the requirements of the law and a humane approach to victims.
A peculiar feature of the training was, developed by the department, presentation of the algorithm of a police officer actions at the scene of event when responding to cases of domestic violence. The participants worked on real cases and learned to make decisions quickly in conditions of limited time and emotional stress.
