A training for higher education seekers on inclusive communication entitled «Accessibility starts with us» was held in the general library of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs.

The speaker of the event, librarian Tetiana Zavalei, introduced those present to the key principles of accessibility and analyzed the main types of barriers that can hinder effective interaction. Special emphasis was placed on how the choice of words, intonation, and the attitude shape the level of trust between a police officer and a citizen, especially when it comes to people with different life experiences or those who need additional support.

Invited guests – psychologists from the municipal institution «Kropyvnytskyi City Center for Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Provision of Social Services for Persons with Disabilities» Tetiana Diomych and Svitlana Zabudko – joined the discussion. The specialists shared their own practical work experience, emphasizing the importance of empathy, attentiveness, and adherence to correct terminology when performing professional duties.

To consolidate the theoretical part of the training, the participants completed a number of interactive tasks aimed at developing inclusive communication skills. In particular, the cadets worked on the exercise «Language Matters», analyzed the correctness of wording in communication, solved case situations that model real circumstances of police officers’ professional communication, and also tested their knowledge during the interactive test «The Art of Inclusive Communication».
