On the occasion of Women’s Emancipation Day, the general library of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs hosted a Gender-talk event «The Right to Be Yourself: Emancipation as Freedom of Choice». Moderators of the event – librarians Antonina Harkusha and Iryna Konieva – presented a thematic art location «Emancipation in Color», which became a symbolic visual embodiment of freedom of choice and self-realization.

The discussion was joined by Deputy Head of the Department of Organization of Scientific Activities – Head of the Unit of Organization of Scientific Work, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Natalia Pasichnyk. She highlighted a historical dimension of female leadership and drew attention to a significant contribution of women to the development of science, culture, education and society in general. The topic of modern challenges in the field of gender equality was continued by Rector Assistant for Gender Issues, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Kateryna Voievoda. She shared her vision of current problems and prospects for the development of the culture of equal opportunities, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect, partnership and non-discrimination in the professional and social environment.

Academic Secretary of the Academic Council Secretariat, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Olha Kuzmenko familiarized the audience with modern trends in the field of ensuring equal rights and opportunities, emphasizing the importance of real indicators and practical mechanisms in the formation of effective state and social policy.
The participants’ special attention was drawn to the speech of head of the general library, Yulia Bahlai, dedicated to the reflection of the theme of women’s emancipation in the world and Ukrainian literature. The discussion focused on works and authors that raised issues of freedom of choice, women’s rights to education, professional fulfillment, and their own voice in society.

A logical continuation of Gender-talk was an interactive exercise «No Labels: Talent Has No Gender», during which the participants were persuaded that abilities and professionalism do not depend on gender stereotypes. The topic of self-realization and freedom of choice was continued by the exercises «The Path to Yourself: 7 Steps of Freedom of Choicе» and «The Balloon of My Right», which helped the participants to understand their own values, the right to be themselves and the importance of mutual respect.
