As part of implementation of the main project «Code of the Nation: Formation of Ukrainian Identity», the general library of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs hosted a library open-space «Lesia Ukrainka: Code of Female Power and National Identity», dedicated to a Ukrainian Woman’s Day and the 155th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding poetess Lesia Ukrainka.

The event was opened by head of the library, Yuliia Bahlai, who emphasized the importance of cultural heritage in forming national consciousness of youth and the role of a Ukrainian woman in the history of statehood and modern social processes.
The meeting was continued by librarian Antonina Harkusha, who suggested the higher education seekers’ the vision of Lesia Ukrainka’s work through the prism of modern challenges. The participants discussed how the writer’s words inspire courage of thought and the responsibility for the state.
The meeting was joined by Iryna Liahul, research associate at the Kirovohrad Regional Council Museum of Arts, member of the Kirovohrad Regional Organization of the Union of Women of Ukraine, who shared with those present her considerations on the historical path of a Ukrainian woman and her role in modern society. As part of the event, she also presented the exhibition «Woman’s Power», which included works by Honored Artist of Ukraine Felix Polonsky, member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine Anatolii Kimnatnyi, and our countryman artist Serhii Dryha.
An interactive component of the open-space was the exercises «Poetic Voice of Lesia Ukrainka» and «Truth or Myth», during which young people reconsidered stereotypes about the personality of the writer and the role of women in culture and society
The meeting concluded with creating a thematic photo zone «Lesia next to us» – a symbolic space of strength, dignity and spiritual invincibility of a Ukrainian woman.
