On the basis of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs, the staffers of the Strategic Communications Department of the FPSU-2 program (the “Partnership for a Strong Ukraine” Foundation) conducted a two-day training for trainers on emergency communications.
The Partnership for a Strong Ukraine program is a multi-donor initiative funded by the governments of the United Kingdom, Estonia, Canada, Norway, Finland, Switzerland and Sweden. It aims to strengthen Ukraine’s resilience in the face of Russian aggression by providing critical support to local communities in cooperation with Ukrainian government agencies, civil society, media and the private sector.
The event was aimed at increasing the professional capacity of the University’s scientific and pedagogical staff by mastering modern methods of effective communication in crisis situations.
On behalf of the University’s rector, Serhii Vitvitskyi, dean of the faculty of training specialists for pre-trial investigation bodies of the National Police of Ukraine, Valerii Kosse, and head of the international cooperation unit, Dariia Kolos, addressed the guests of the program.
The training began by reviewing key aspects of emergency communication and identifying their main objectives. The participants delved into the topic of “Scenario-Based Planning,” which is an important tool for anticipating and effectively responding to crisis events. They studied in detail the principles of inclusive communication and methods for predicting people’s behavior in stressful situations. Particular attention was paid to the development of strategies aimed at increasing public trust and improving the perception of police actions during crisis situations.
A separate thematic block was devoted to the issues of interaction with vulnerable audiences and the use of vulnerability mapping tools according to the COM-B model (Capability, Opportunity, Motivation). This stage ended with a practical session that allowed the attendees to apply the acquired knowledge in conditions close to real-life.
Following the training, all participants received certificates, confirming their readiness to apply the acquired knowledge of effective communications in their professional activities.
Conducting such training is an important step in strengthening the potential of the DonSUIA as a center for training specialists capable of acting in crisis situations and ensuring effective interaction between police and society.
