In the city of Dnipro, a delegation of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs, headed by first vice-rector, police colonel Olena Volobuieva, joined the regional conference «Reforming law enforcement agencies in the context of Ukraine’s European integration: implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Plan for Reforming Law Enforcement Agencies as a Component of the Security and Defense Sector of Ukraine for 2023–2027 and its Regional Dimension».
The event became a platform for discussing reforms in the law enforcement system of Ukraine and brought together representatives of central executive bodies, law enforcement agencies, higher education institutions with specific training conditions, international organizations, and civilian communities from the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions.
The participants were addressed by Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Taras Kachka, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Oleksii Serhieiev, Chargé d’Affaires of the United Kingdom in Ukraine Charlotte Suren, and Head of the EU Advisory Mission to Ukraine Rolf Holmboe.
During the working panels, the participants focused on the implementation of the requirements of Chapter 24 «Justice, Freedom and Security» regarding European integration and analysis of the Strategic Plan implementation, emphasizing the importance of coordination between the center and the regions. The key topics were transparency of law enforcement agencies, their accountability and active cooperation with civil society. In addition, special attention was paid to practical measures of the roadmap to counter the illicit trafficking of weapons and explosives, which is a security priority in conditions of martial law.
Summing up, the DonSUIA representatives and other participants emphasized that only the synergy of scientific potential, practical experience of law enforcement officers and international expertise will allow creating a security environment of а European pattern in Ukraine.
