The first stage of the All-Ukrainian Road Safety Week has begun in Ukraine. Within its framework a round table was held at the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Kyiv Interregional Branch of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Transport Medicine of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the International Charitable Foundation «Assistance to Victims of Road Accidents».

The event brought together transport industry specialists and representatives of state and non-state organizations.
One of the speakers at the meeting was rector of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs, Serhii Vitvitskyi. He emphasized that about 20% of road accidents occur in small settlements, where safety depends not on the patrol police, but also on units in communities. The rector stressed upon the fact that a key factor in preventing the increase in the number of such cases is a high-quality training of community police officers. He also noted that currently the DonSUIA is the only institution in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine that carries out such specialization: almost 800 officers trained by the University are already serving in all regions of the country.
During the discussion, the participants focused on the peculiarities of road safety in conditions of martial law, current legislative initiatives, the state of road infrastructure, as well as educational programs for children and youth.
Summing up the work of the round table, the participants came to a common conclusion: only systematic coordination of efforts in the field of personnel training, legislation and infrastructure development will significantly reduce the level of injuries and create a safe road environment in Ukraine.
