On the initiative of the rector of the University Serhii Vitvitskyi, a city-wide informational and educational campaign “DonSUIA- for safe traffic!” was held in Kropyvnytskyi, Kryvyi Rih and Ivano-Frankivsk.
Its purpose is to remind the citizens of simple rules of behavior on the roads that will help save their lives.
“In the conditions of a full-scale war, injuries and deaths of people occur not only due to hostilities, but also in traffic accidents. According to statistics, a pedestrian is hit every hour and a half in Ukraine. Pedestrians are the most vulnerable road users. Almost every third person injured in a road accident is a pedestrian. Unfortunately, there are children among them,” said Serhii Vitvitskyi.
According to the National Police, in 7 months of 2023, 12,609 traffic accidents were committed in Ukraine, which is 41% more than last year. During 2022, 125 children died on the country’s roads, and 2,978 were injured. Considering these figures, at the beginning of the new academic year, the University team developed a Pedestrian Reminder.
The participants of the action handed out information booklets to passers-by with tips on how to behave on the road in the daylight and in the darkness. They provided practical recommendations for injury prevention.
The event was attended by representatives of the University units, students of the Mariupol primary vocational training center “Police Academy” of the DonDUVS, members of the Youth Council of the Kirovohrad region, employees of the juvenile prevention sector of the prevention department of the Kropyvnytskyi district police department of the National Security Service of Ukraine in the Kirovohrad region, the Department of Patrol Police in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
