Yevhen Hordiienko, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, has taken the first step towards new opportunities by successfully completing his training at the «Barrier-Free Driving School» at Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs and obtaining a Category B driving licence.
Originally from the Donetsk region, he joined the defence of Ukraine and, in 2024, sustained an explosive-related injury whilst carrying out combat duties in the Volodarsk area. Despite prolonged treatment and rehabilitation, he decided to learn to drive in order to regain his mobility and independence.
During his training, Yevhen successfully completed the theory course, practised his driving skills, passed the practical test at the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ service centre and was awarded a Category B driving licence.
«For me, this is not just a driving licence. It is an opportunity to be independent, to move about freely and to build my future with confidence,» said the soldier.
The «Barrier-Free Driving Schools» project is being implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine as part of an initiative by the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska.
