In accordance with the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated December 23, 2022 No. 1166, the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs opened a Specialized Academic Council for awarding the scientific degree
of Doctor of Sciences. Board profile: 12.00.01 – theory and history of the state and law; history of political and legal studies; 12.00.08 – criminal law and criminology; criminal‒executive law.
Due to this, today the university has a powerful scientific potential. The Specialized Academic Council for awarding the scientific degree of Doctor of Sciences includes 13 doctors of legal sciences. The head of the council is Yehor Nazymko, doctor of legal sciences, professor, first vice-rector of DonSUIA, the deputy head is- Serhii Vitvitskyi, doctor of legal sciences, professor, rector of DonSUIA;the scientific secretary is – Hanna Buha, doctor of legal sciences, associate professor, head of the unit of DonSUIA.
DonSUIA has extensive experience in training scientific personnel. Since 1997, the university has had a postgraduate course, 268 graduates of which have successfully defended their dissertation researches for the degree of candidate of legal sciences. Moreover, by 2022, the University had 2 specialized academic councils for the defense of theses in 6 scientific specialties, in which 81 dissertation researches were successfully defended during 2018–2020.
In the new conditions of reforming higher legal education, in accordance with the requirements of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine resolution “On awarding the degree of Doctor of Philosophy” and the “Temporary procedure for awarding the degree of Doctor of Philosophy”, by the orders of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 18 one-time specialized academic councils for the defense of the dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in specialty 081 “Law” were created at the University.
