Can one signal stop an enemy drone? How to detect a threat before it strikes? The answers to these questions were received by second-year students of the Faculty of Training Specialists for Pre-Trial Investigation Bodies of the National Police of Ukraine of the DonSUIA «firsthand» – from the one who holds the security dome on the front line.
The guest and main speaker of the meeting on «Basics of Anti-Drone Security. Application of Electronic Warfare» was a war veteran, deputy commander of the Electronic Warfare Company of the 66th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Mstislav Khorobry, Senior Lieutenant Pavlo Fedchyshyn. The officer shared practical combat experience in using electronic warfare in conditions of modern war and outlined the key challenges faced by units on the front line.
In the course of communication, the cadets learned that the modern concept of electronic warfare is primarily an intellectual duel. The defender explained that the main task of a specialist is not so much to physically destroy a drone, but to completely block its functions by suppressing control and navigation signals, in particular by using the mechanism of «blinding» enemy equipment, which after electronic warfare intervention, loses contact with the operator.
Of particular interest was the analysis of typical mistakes and the importance of coordination between units. The speaker emphasized that effective protection requires not only technology, but also strategic thinking. The audience learned the benefits of innovative approaches: creation of mobile groups, transition to active cover tactics, and the use of radio monitoring systems for early detection of targets.
Finally, law enforcement officers were familiarized with the operation of modular systems such as «Perun’s Thunder», which have already proven their efficiency at significant distances.
