A training for specialists in supporting war veterans and demobilized persons was held at the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs as part of the project “Politics of Heroes: The Power of Community.” The project is implemented by the DonSUIA together with the Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration and is aimed at supporting veterans, their families, and individuals who work with the veteran community.
The speaker of the event was the coordinator of the Center for Medical and Psychological Rehabilitation of the Regional Clinical Hospital for War Veterans, Hanna Kolieva. The training was also attended by the chief specialist of the Department for Veterans’ Affairs of the Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration, Viktoriia Pertsova, Vice-Rector of the DonSUIA Ruslan Vradii, and rector’s assistant for work with veterans Anton Doroshenko.
During practical sessions, the participants mastered effective communication methods, learned the basics of crisis response, and became familiar with the psychological consequences of war, the peculiarities of veterans’ adaptation, and the role of the family in the process of their readaptation.
The training contributed to improving the professional development of specialists and forming a sensitive, tolerant attitude towards veterans and their family members, which is an important component of social support and reintegration of veterans into civilian life.
