A rehabilitation program for defenders of Ukraine is underway at the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs as part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs project “Friendly Support”.
A certified instructor in physical rehabilitation of veterans, associate professor of the department of special physical and pre-medical training of the DonSUIA, Volodymyr Halimskyi, conducted his next boxing training session.
A serviceman Yulia served in the 37th Battalion of the 56th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade in the Donetsk region. While performing a combat mission, she was injured, as a result of which she lost her lower limb and suffered a serious injury to her hand.
The class was aimed at improving fine motor skills of the upper limbs. Together with the coach, Yulia practiced: punches with angle, amplitude, and force control, which help improve fine motor skills and stabilize the muscles of the hand and forearm; exercises for coordination of both hands in dynamics with elements of tactical thinking and self-control of movements; concentration and balance, which help activate small muscles of the hand and restore sensitivity.
“For me, sports is an opportunity to feel control over my body again, gain self-belief, and return to active lifestyle”, Yulia noted.
