To the anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birthday, a poetry battle “Word as a verdict” was held in the general library of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs in the format of slam poetry and rap recitation, which was attended by cadets, students and representatives of the student-cadet self-government.
The event was held within the framework of the project «Code of the Nation: Formation of Ukrainian Identity» and a series of events «The Ukrainian Language: Language as a Shield of the Nation».
Antonina Harkusha, librarian of the general library, emphasized that Kobzar’s work is not just a literary heritage, but a true spiritual code of the nation.
As part of their preparation for the performances, the young people watched videos about the poet’s life and his creative path, gained a deeper understanding of him as an artist, thinker, and a symbol of Ukrainian national revival, and also listened to modern songs set to words by Taras Shevchenko.
The format of the battle included performances in the style of rap or emotional reading (slam poetry). Each participant had up to three minutes to convey their own vision of the classical text through rhythm, energy, and emotions, bringing Kobzar’s words to life in a modern sound.
The event ended with a creative art project «Shevchenko in Pixels», where those present interpreted the image of the poet in the digital format.
