A car park for practical driving exercises, a specialized class for theoretical training, vehicles with manual control, and experienced instructors – a specialized driving school is functioning at the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs.
Vice-rector of the University Olena Volobuieva reported about this during the briefing at Kirovohrad regional military administration.
The studying is taking place at the base of the Mariupol Center for Primary Professional Training “Police Academy” in the framework of the project “Driving School for People with Disabilities” by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine with the support of partners within a nationwide initiative of the first lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska.
This is the only institution in the Kirovohrad region where people with disabilities can get a driver’s license or acquire new driving skills.
The aim of the school is to ensure high-quality training for drivers of category “B” vehicles according to the requirements of the current legislation as well as to fulfill a social function regarding the training of driving vehicles for people with disabilities and participants in hostilities.
The duration of the educational process is 104 training hours: 64 hours of theoretical introduction and 40 – driver`s practice. The school has 8 modern cars, 2 of which are specially equipped for persons with disabilities. Simultaneously 60 people can study there.
According to Olena Volobuieva’s words, current course participants are cadets, students, their parents, and ordinary citizens. Now, four people with disabilities are gathering documents for studying at school. The permission of doctors to drive a vehicle of category “B” is mandatory.
People with disabilities can choose a comfortable form of training – in general, or in separate groups.
“We are constantly studying the educational demand for driver training. If necessary, we are also ready to convert trucks to manual control in order to provide more opportunities for the socialization of persons with disabilities and our military,” said Olena Volobuieva.
