An educational and cultural workshop with elements of patriotic education «The Garden of Gethsemane: a modern view of the crimes of a totalitarian state» was held at the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs, organized by head of the Scientific Society of Students, Cadets, Trainees, Postgraduate Students, Adjuncts and Young Scientists, Tatiana Ponomareva, together with the general library of the University.

The workshop was attended by first-year (bachelor’s) higher education seekers, postgraduate students (adjuncts) in the specialties «Law» and «Law Enforcement Activities», as well as students of the ICPPP «Police Academy».
During the event, librarian Antonina Harkusha spoke about the life and literary activity of Ivan Bahrianyi, focusing on his struggle for human dignity and the truth under conditions of a totalitarian regime.
Based on the writer’s novel «The Garden of Gethsemane», Tatiana Ponomareva conducted a historical and legal analysis of the work, clearly demonstrating the mechanisms and cynicism of the Soviet repressive machine.
During the event special attention was also focused on the formation of skills in higher education seekers to qualify criminal offenses against justice. In the format of a role-playing game based on the novel, they consolidated the knowledge gained through practical modeling of situations.
