On the occasion of the 34th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, final competitions of the camp gathering Spartakiad were held at the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs. First year students competed in mini-football and arm wrestling, demonstrating strength, endurance and team spirit.
The tournament program also included a number of patriotic relay races: “Passing the Flag,” “Historical Race,” “Cossack Power,” “Ribbon of Unity,” and “Defense of the Fortress.” In “Passing the Flag” competition the teams held the flags of Ukraine and the EU high up, demonstrating respect for national values and the country’s European choice. During “Historical Race”, the cadets, while covering the distance, answered questions on the history of Ukraine, and performed push-ups for the mistakes made.
In “Cossack Power” competition, the participants lifted sports equipment, testing their endurance and strength. The “Unity Ribbon” symbolized togetherness – the cadets attached yellow-blue ribbons as a sign of unity and brotherhood. The final event was “Defense of the Fortress” relay race, during which it was necessary to knock down skittles with accurate throws, defending one’s own “stronghold.”
According to the results of the relay competitions, the victory went to team No. 4 (102nd training platoon). Cadet Hlib Hryhorenko was the first in arm wrestling, and in mini-football final, team No. 3 (102nd training platoon) defeated team No. 1 (101st training platoon) with a score of 5:3.
