On the basis of the Regional Center for Advanced Training of the Kirovograd Region, training was held for civil servants of categories „B” „C” and local government officials.
The event is aimed at raising awareness of cybersecurity and personal data protection, which is critical in today’s digital environment.
Olha Haborets, Associate Professor of the Department of Operational and Investigative Activities and Information Security of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs, delivered a lecture to the students of the course „Personal Cybersecurity of Public Servants and Personal Data Protection”.
The lecturer covered the key topics in detail:
– types of cyber threats and attacks, their consequences and ways to detect them;
– protection of IT networks from internal and external threats;
– cryptography as the basis of data protection: encryption, digital signatures;
– authentication and authorization: secure access to systems;
– data backup: how to protect information in case of failures or attacks;
– antivirus programs and their configuration for effective device protection;
– virtual private networks (VPN): ensuring confidentiality when working on the Internet;
– IT infrastructure security, including physical protection of servers and access restrictions.
She emphasized the practical aspects of personal data protection, as civil servants often work with sensitive information, which makes them potential targets for cybercriminals.
„Today, cybersecurity is not only a technical issue, but also an element of the professional culture of every public servant. The ability to protect data and effectively counteract threats is a mandatory competence nowadays,” emphasized Olha Haborets.
The participants asked questions and received recommendations on how to protect information. As a result, 158 officials successfully completed the course and received certificates.
