The training was held at the «Integrity Education» Training Center of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs (DonSUIA) as part of a professional development program for Category «B» civil servants from the regional service centers of the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. The training focused on «Interaction and Appropriate Communication with Persons Having Mobility, Hearing, and Visual Impairments».
The session was led by Assistant to the Rector for Gender Issues at the DonSUIA, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Kateryna Voievoda.
During the session, the participants learned about the fundamental principles of a barrier-free communication, the nuances of interacting with people having various types of impairments, common communication errors, and practical procedures for providing assistance while respecting the individual’s dignity and autonomy.
The lecturer focused on the concepts of a person-centered language and modern standards of ethical communication. The participants were introduced to a practical tool—the «Guide to Ethical and Barrier-Free Communication with People Having Disabilities»—developed at the DonSUIA. Created in alignment with the «Barrier-Free Glossary», the publication offers recommendations on appropriate terminology, guidelines for interacting with individuals having impairments, and practical case studies for professionals in the public, security, and defense sectors.
Upon the training completion, the participants received appropriate certificates.
