Adaptive strength training sessions for war veterans are underway at the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs as part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine’s «Friendly Support» project. This week, a new participant, Oleksandr, veteran of the Special Operations Forces, joined the sessions.
Prior to the full-scale invasion, he served as an operator with the 73rd Naval Special Operations Center named after Kosh Otaman Antin Holovatyi. While carrying out a combat mission in the Zaporizhzhia sector, the serviceman sustained a severe injury that resulted in the loss of a lower limb. Today, Oleksandr moves about with the help of a modern prosthesis and is working on regaining his physical fitness.
Alina Kramarenko, instructor at the Department of Special Physical Training, conducted another individual training session for him. Following an individualized program, the veteran performed exercises to strengthen his chest and shoulder girdle muscles using strength exercise machines and free weights.
After the first session, Oleksandr shared his impressions:
«I really enjoy the training process. The atmosphere is comfortable, there is support, and the exercises are tailored to my needs. This motivates me to keep moving forward».
Adaptive training sessions at the DonSUIA help veterans restore their physical and mental health and adapt to new life circumstances.
