The «Barrier-Free Driving School» of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs continues to prove that everyone has the right to mobility and accessibility. Yulia Vereshchak, a student with a hearing impairment, successfully completed theoretical and practical training courses there, for whom the path to driving became an important step towards greater independence.
Yulia’s path was not easy. She could hear until she was four, then her hearing began to deteriorate, and in her teens she lost it completely – suddenly, in a matter of days. For 13 years, her world was filled with silence, and communication was mainly through lip-reading. Today, using a hearing aid, she perceives only some sounds, and full understanding of speech is possible mainly visually.
Despite this, due to the professionalism of the driving school instructors, Yulia successfully passed her exams at the Regional Service Center of the State Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, and Kirovohrad regions and received a category «B» driver’s license.
The project «Barrier-Free Driving Schools» is being implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine as part of the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska.
