Regional sports forum of veterans “The Strong of Ukraine” was held at the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs.
The event brought together representatives of state authorities, local governments, strongmen, veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war and active community of the Kirovohrad region.
On behalf of the DonSUIA rector, Serhii Vitvitskyi, those present were greeted by the University vice-rector, Ruslan Vradii.
He emphasized that the University comprehensively supports the defenders of Ukraine, providing psychological, physical and legal assistance, facilitating their employment, and socialization. He especially focused on creating a barrier-free environment within the activities of the DonSUIA driving school.
The leading project “Barrier-Free Driving Schools” is being implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine within the framework of the National Barrier-Free Strategy, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, at the initiative of First Lady Olena Zelenska. The DonSUIA participation in the project is regarded as an implementation of the University third mission –its active social function, which includes interacting with the community, implementing principles of inclusion and forming a safe and accessible educational space.
The forum participants discussed current problems of veterans’ rehabilitation, ways to solve them, prospects for rehabilitation through sports, the development of a veteran sports community in the region, issues of sports rehabilitation and social reintegration between war veterans, state authorities, deputies and representatives of businesses providing sports, and recreation services.
