On September 14th, 2022 seventy progressive and active cadets and students of the DonSUIA took part in the online conference `Localization of the `Women. Peace. Security.` agenda.
The event is organized in the framework of the project `Strengthening the young women potential in the communities of Donetsk and Luhansk regions to move the ` Women. Peace. Security.` agenda forward which is implemented by the NGO `Internews Ukraine` with support of the UN Women.
The aims of the conference are raising awareness of young women’s contribution to the Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme in Ukraine, sharing the best practices, challenges, and lessons obtained during the moving the ` Women. Peace. Security. `agenda forward , strengthening political will and commitment to the implementation of the `Women. Peace. Security. ` agenda through significant participation of young people.
The representatives of UN Women, international organizations, national, regional and local state authorities took part in the conference.
Kateryna Levchenko, Government Commissioner on Gender Policy in Ukraine and Hiita Kuttiparambil, acting Head of UN Women in Ukraine gave a welcome speech.
Presentations by leading experts were interesting: Nadiezhda Lutenko international project manager, program specialist ‘Management, Women, Peace, Security, UN Women in Ukraine. She outlined approaches that are aimed at taking forward the ` Women.Peace.Security.` agenda in conjunction with the `Youth. Peace. Security.` agenda in Ukraine.
Milena Komar is a project manager at Internews Ukraine, Oleksandra Ahapova and Anastasiia Nazarenko are members of the young women leaders peacebuilding Network who substantiated and revealed the challenges faced by young women affected by the war in Ukraine.
In the framework of the online conference were discussed following issues: the importance of gender policy; inspired leadership of young women during the war in Ukraine; women`s activism at the regional level for the maintenance of peace and safety; the `Women. Peace. Security.` agenda as a prospect of youth capacity development, strengthening the young women`s voice in mass media; the young leader`s manifest of Peacebuilding.
The students and cadets of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs took an active part in urgent questions and discussions, regarding the strengthening of political will, gender equality, rights and freedoms of women, peace and development of Ukraine in conditions of martial law.
As a result of the conference, participants gave propositions for further prospects direction of activities towards the `Youth. Peace. Security. ` agenda in Ukraine.
