To celebrate the All-Ukrainian Psychologist’s Day, an interactive media excursion «Behind closed doors: psychological mechanisms of overcoming gender-based violence» was held in the general library of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs.
At the beginning of the event, librarian Antonina Harkusha emphasized the importance of the profession of a psychologist in supporting mental health and overcoming crisis situations. She also made a thematic book presentation dedicated to the issues of gender equality and combating violence, which allowed the participants to get better familiarized with current literature and information resources.
Within the theoretical part, the participants considered the essence of gender-based violence, its main forms and the reasons for silencing the problem. Special attention was paid to the importance of public response and the unacceptability of any manifestations of violence.
Associate professor of the Department of Psychology, Sociology and Pedagogy of the DonSUIA, candidate of psychological sciences Natalia Tsumareva developed the theme revealing the psychological mechanisms of overcoming violence and outlined the ways to support victims.
The interactive part of the event included exercises «Share your opinion» and «What would I do?» , during which the students analyzed life situations using QR codes, identified signs of violence and algorithms for action in crisis conditions. Of particular interest was a creative exercise «Digital Poster: Say NO to Violence», where the participants developed ideas for social posters with the help of artificial intelligence.
The final stage of the meeting was the «Circle of Support» exercise, during which the higher education seekers demonstrated their solidarity and readiness to counteract violence, emphasizing the importance of not being indifferent and professionally trained.
