Higher education seekers of the Educational and Scientific Institute for Training Specialists for Criminal Police Units named after E.O. Didorenko, DonSUIA took part in a specialized practical training «Digital Traces of War: Integration of OSINT and Criminal Analysis on the Example of the Kharkiv Region».
Marina Novikova, a representative of the Criminal Analysis Department of the Main Office of the National Police in the Kharkiv region, shared her practical experience of documenting war crimes in the frontline region. She introduced the cadets to real cases of police work under martial law and the specifics of using analytical tools in daily work.
During the meeting, the main focus was on the use of open source intelligence (OSINT) and its integration into the criminal analysis system. Using cases from police practice in the Kharkiv region, the participants were shown algorithms for detecting, collecting and processing digital traces left as a result of armed aggression.
Special attention was paid to the participants’ practicing methods for working with social networks, geolocation of photo and video materials, as well as the use of open registers to identify persons involved in illegal activities.
