The ability to support a person in a crisis situation, to choose the right words and at the same time to act professionally is what forms a modern psychologist. This is exactly the issue that was the subject of a binary foreign language lesson on the topic «Psychology for Life in Challenging Context», which was held at the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs for students majoring in «Psychology».

The speaker of the class was Olena Blyzniukova, Associate Professor of the Department of Practical Psychology of the V.Vynnychenko Central Ukrainian State University, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, and two-time participant of the Fulbright Program. She shared with the students her practical experience as a psychologist and psychotherapist, in particular in interacting with people who are in difficult life circumstances or need psychological support.
During the meeting they focused at the mechanisms of personal adaptation to crisis situations. The participants considered methods of developing stress resistance, methods of emotional regulation and principles of effective communication with people who need help. They separately discussed the readiness of a specialist to work in conditions of increased emotional stress and professional uncertainty.
An important aspect of the class was the combination of psychological content with English language learning, which allowed the students to master professional terminology and simultaneously practice communication skills in an international context.
